Sync your DJ software

Premium

Every song you add to your set is saved to a playlist on your Tidal or Apple Music account. Your DJ software, signed in to the same account, finds that playlist like any other: no more looking up requests by hand.

01What you need

  1. 1A Special Request Premium plan.
  2. 2A Tidal or Apple Music account with a streaming subscription.
  3. 3DJ software that streams from that service: see the table below.

Tip:Spotify is for song search only: its new policy considerably restricts account linking for apps like Special Request, which keeps us from creating your playlist on Spotify for now. For the playlist, choose Tidal or Apple Music.

02Connect your account

  1. 1Open Settings, then Connected platforms.
  2. 2Tap Connect next to Tidal or Apple Music.
  3. 3Sign in to your account and allow Special Request.

You can also connect your account right from the event form: the app offers it when you choose the playlist.

03Turn on the playlist for an event

  1. 1In the event form (when creating it or in Edit event), open Music platform.
  2. 2Choose Tidal or Apple Music.
  3. 3Turn on Send accepted requests to a playlist.
  4. 4Choose New playlist: a playlist named after the event is created for you. Or choose Existing playlist and pick one of yours.
  5. 5Save the event.

04Open the playlist in your DJ software

  1. 1In your DJ software, sign in to the same Tidal or Apple Music account.
  2. 2Open that streaming service's section and find the playlist named after your event.
  3. 3During the night, every song added to your set is added to it too.

Tip:A new song doesn't show up? Refresh the playlist in your DJ software.

05Refresh the playlist in your DJ software

Most DJ software doesn't reload a playlist by itself when songs are added to it. If the latest song of your set doesn't show up, refresh the playlist:

rekordbox 6 and 7Click the streaming service's refresh button, in the tree view.
Serato DJ Pro, DJ LiteIn Setup > Library + Display > Music Streaming, turn Show Streaming Services off and back on.
VirtualDJCollapse and re-expand the service's folder in the browser.

Tip:Still nothing? Sign out of the streaming service in your DJ software and back in, or restart the software: it always loads the latest version of the playlist then.

06Good to know

You can turn on or change the playlist at any time, even during the event, from Edit event. When you switch playlists, your whole set is sent to the new one.

In What can be requested, you can also limit requests to the songs of one of your playlists: guests then pick from your own repertoire.
